Heinrich Goussen

Heinrich Goussen (born November 2, 1863 in Eschweiler , † April 18, 1927 in Bonn ) was a German orientalist and liturgical scholar .

Life

From 1883 to 1887 he studied philosophy, catholic theology and oriental studies in Bonn . In 1888 he was ordained a priest in Cologne and was employed in various pastoral functions until his death (from 1895 to 1918 as a military chaplain in Strasbourg, Aachen and Düsseldorf). In addition to Greek and Russian, he learned various oriental languages ​​at the universities of Bonn and Berlin for his special field of research into the Eastern Churches . 1897 doctorate he in Freiburg to Dr. theol. with a work on the Coptic-Sahidic Revelation of John . From 1921 to 1927 he taught as a "full honorary professor " for oriental church affairs and oriental languages ​​at the Catholic-Theological Faculty and at the Oriental Seminar of the University of Bonn . His most important student became Grigol Peradze . Goussen's grave is in the north cemetery (Bonn) .

Goussen left behind an important orientalist private library, today in the University and State Library of Bonn.
