Hansa Prize
The Hansa-Price is a German Group 2 - flat race for 3-year-old and older thoroughbreds . It is held every year in June or July in Hamburg-Horn over a distance of 2400 m clockwise on grass. 3-year-olds must carry 54 kg, 4-year-olds 60 kg. Mares are allowed 1½ kg. In 2012 the prize money was € 70,000, of which € 42,000 went to the winner.
history
The race was held for the first time in 1892, at that time under the name of the Great Hansa Prize. It was held as an anniversary prize in 1902 and 1927. In 1944 the race took place in Dresden , otherwise always in Hamburg. In 1962 it took place under the name of the “Berlin Grand Prix”. In 1972 the Hansa Prize was classified as a Group II race. For a long time the race was run over 2,200 meters. In 2008 it was extended by 200 m.
