Andreas Suborics (* 11. August 1971 in Vienna ) was an Austrian jockey in flat racing , predominantly in Germany rode. He is now working as a horse trainer in Cologne .

Suborics began his jockey apprenticeship in 1986 in Freudenau, Vienna .

Suborics achieved his first victory in a group race on October 21, 1990 at the Win Frontal in Munich . He developed into one of the best riders in Germany, which was reflected in three jockey championships (2002, 2004 and 2006). In 2004 he won the German Derby on Shirocco . He won the Jockey World Series in Japan twice. He has celebrated over 1,400 victories so far, more than 70 of them in group races .

Temporary end of career and restart

After he had a serious riding accident in Kyoto in January 2005 , during the treatment of which a titanium plate was inserted between his thoracic vertebrae, another serious accident occurred during training in Hong Kong in April 2010 . As a result, he ended his career as a jockey. However, he celebrated his comeback at the end of the year and was able to build on his earlier successes. In the first half of 2012 he will ride with a guest license in Hong Kong, after which he will work for the French trainer John Hammond. Andreas Suborics has been a trainer in Cologne since 2017.
