Peter Alafi
Peter Alafi (born February 5, 1936 in Budapest , † August 20, 2012 in Krefeld ) was a German jockey in horse racing .
Born in Hungary, he emigrated to Germany in 1956 after the Hungarian uprising . His first engagement was with Count Janos Pejacsevich , who also emigrated after the Hungarian uprising and who was then training some of the horses at the Röttgen Stud . The first success in a major race in Germany came with the 'Mülheim Prize' at the Mülheim-Raffelberg racecourse. In June of the same year, Utrillo won the Austrian Derby for the Röttgen stud. Alafi quickly grasped the peculiarities of a horse and was able to ride it accordingly.
Alafi was active in Germany between 1957 and 1992. During this time he won 2,307 horse races. For a long time he led the best list in Germany ahead of the legendary Otto Schmidt . It was not until 2017 that Andrasch Starke surpassed him in this ranking. He triumphed with the horses Elviro (1968), Königsstuhl (1979), Orofino (1981) and Ordos (1983) in the German Derby . Another highlight of Alafi's collaboration as long-time stable jockey with coach Sven von Mitzlaff was winning the so-called triple crown , consisting of the Henckel race, the derby and the St. Leger in 1979 on Königsstuhl , an achievement that is still unique in Germany today Horse racing. In 1962, 1975, 1977 and 1984 Alafi won the jockey championship in Germany. Before that he was a champion jockey in Hungary in 1952. In 1992 he had to end his career due to an injury.
