Heinrich Hollpein
Heinrich Hollpein (born May 12, 1814 in Vienna ; † May 7, 1888 there ) was an Austrian painter and writer .
Life
Hollpein was a son of the engraver Leopold Hollpein and Wilhelmine geb. Grob (also Kropp), an aunt of Franz Schubert's childhood sweetheart Therese Grob. Since Wilhelmine was married to Ignaz Schubert, the eldest brother and first teacher of Franz Schubert, for the second time, Hollpein became Franz Schubert's step-nephew. As a member of the musically versatile Schubert family, he turned to painting. He studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, where he exhibited his portraits from 1834 to 1836. In 1842 he went to Russia as a portraitist and portrayed aristocrats and artists. From 1851 in Rome he became president of the German artists' association there in 1853 . In 1853 he traveled to Munich via Naples. Because of increasing visual impairment, he gave up painting and wrote comedies.
Hollpein is buried in an honorary grave at the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 35 F, Row 14, No. 10).
