Heinrich II. Von Sternberg

Heinrich II. Von Sternberg († April 1, 1328 ) was Prince-Bishop of the Bamberg Monastery from 1324 until his death in 1328 .

Heinrich II von Sternberg came from the Bohemian noble family von Sternberg . The name Heinrich or Johann was very common in the Sternberg family. Another Heinrich II von Sternberg was bishop of Halberstadt from 1270 to 1290 .

At the time of the appointment of Heinrich II. Von Sternberg as Prince-Bishop Johannes XXII. Pope and Ludwig IV. Kaiser (see also List of Heads of State 1324 ). Before that he was a preacher monk. He gave the location Kupferberg 1326 the town charter , connected to the privileges wall the place and to be allowed to raise taxes. Around 3000 people lived in the village, which today has a population of just over 1000. It was an important center for the mining of copper.

Bishop Heinrich II is buried together with Bamberg Bishops Eberhard I , Egilbert , Timo and Wulfing von Stubenberg in a stone coffin, which today stands on the south wall of the crypt under the east choir of Bamberg Cathedral .
