Heinrich IV., Who is often referred to by the nickname Caseus , came from the Frankish noble family von Heßberg . The eponymous place Heßberg is incorporated into Veilsdorf in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia . From 1372 to 1376 there was another family member, Albrecht III. von Heßberg , briefly Bishop of Würzburg.
In the dispute over the throne in the Holy Roman Empire at the end of the 12th and beginning of the 13th century, Heinrich was a follower of Philip of Swabia . He presumably died outside of Würzburg, his grave is unknown.
