Heßberg is a district of Veilsdorf in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .

location

Heßberg is located in the Werraniederung on the federal road 89 between Veilsdorf and Hildburghausen, three kilometers to the west, at the foot of the Hildburghausen Forest. The border between Thuringia and Bavaria is in the southern part of the district . The Werra Railway runs through the area, which is about 390 meters above sea level.

history

The village was first mentioned on July 10, 1168. The place is the origin of the noble family of the same name von Heßberg .

Hessberg was hit by the witch hunt in 1626 . Two women got into witch trials , were tortured and expelled from the country.

Until 1945 there was a manor with a brewery in the village. The manor's castle had to be demolished after 1945. Now a porcelain company and Milch-Land-GmbH are the largest employers in the village. A new residential area has been developed in Heßberg (Röten).
