Heinrich Jakob vön Häckel , also Heinrich Jakob Freiherr von Haeckel , (* around 1682 in Holstein ? † January 27, 1760 in Frankfurt am Main ) was an imperial officer , philanthropist and art collector .

Life

Von Häckel settled in the Free Imperial City of Frankfurt as a retired Imperial Colonel Sergeant . Here he married the wealthy Maria Elisabeth Rhost, who died in 1753. She was the owner of the house of the two bears in Töngesgasse .

The pensioner was a patron of Christian Georg Schütz the Elder . He created an important private art collection, which was visited several times by the Landgrave of Hessen-Kassel . The Landgrave took advice from Häckel on questions of art. The collection also had an impact on the artistic development of the painter Justus Juncker . His friendship with the Frankfurt philanthropist Johann Christian Senckenberg also influenced the baron's charitable work towards the poor in the imperial city.

In his memoirs, Poetry and Truth, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe calls Häckel an art collector, benefactor and host of dignitaries.
