Heinrich Körner (medalist)

Heinrich Körner (born April 6, 1908 in Esslingen am Neckar ; † July 4, 1993 there ) was a German sculptor and medalist .

Life

In the artistic work of the sculptor Heinrich Körner, craftsmanship was in the foreground from the start. Largely self-taught , his role models were anonymous early Greek artists or medieval masters. From 1922 apprenticeship as an engraver chaser, 1927–1929 Körner learned how to work with different materials from gold to natural stone at the arts and crafts school in Stuttgart. In the thirties, Körner created animal sculptures, influenced by an apprenticeship with the Stuttgart sculptor Pauschinger.

The Second World War , from which he returned wounded, interrupted his artistic career. After the war relief work for public buildings and industry as well as design of large sculptures, tombs and memorials.

Körner had great success as a medalist in the last decades of his life. He designed the 5 DM commemorative coins for Theodor Fontane (1969, minted in 625 silver) and 600 years of Heidelberg University (1986, minted in copper - nickel ), as well as numerous other coins and medals.

Körner's work has been exhibited in several major European cities, including Colorado Springs in the United States .
