Heinrich Klinger (architect)

Heinrich Klinger (born June 2, 1896 in Graz ; † April 25, 1947 there ) was an Austrian architect and painter .

Life

Heinrich Klinger was born on June 2, 1896 in Graz. After completing his architecture studies, which he completed from 1918 to 1922 at the Graz University of Technology , he subsequently worked as an assistant at the university in question from 1923 to 1925. In addition, he appeared together with Rudolf Giendl as a consulting architect from 1923 and then worked as a freelance architect from 1932. Klinger, who was a member of the Steiermärkischen Werkbund , appeared, among other things, as the leading architect for the reconstruction of the village of Draiach, which burned down in 1926, in the northeastern municipality of Aflenz , and in 1927 he was the department architect at the inns' exhibition in Graz.

From 1930 he was also a permanent advisor on all construction issues for the large commercial purchasing cooperative in Graz. His work includes, in addition to making the former Ludwig machine factory ready for construction with the construction of seven conversions as single and multi-family houses, the construction of numerous single-family houses in Graz and the rest of Styria, and the construction of residential buildings in Graz-Eggenberg . He also appeared in business conversions, the interior design of various buildings, portal designs and facade conversions or the school building in Fohnsdorf . Together with Rudolf Giendl, he was also responsible for the design of the Stukitz bath in Graz-Andritz at the time. Klinger also provided the partial development plans from the development plan for Graz and parcels of around 20 hectares in Graz-Puntigam , Andritz and Fohnsdorf.

In addition to his work as an architect, he also worked as a draftsman and watercolorist, where he exhibited his works in the Neue Galerie Graz in 1942 . From 1941 to 1945 Klinger was also head of the Graz Army Construction Office. In addition, he was honored and awarded many times throughout his life, including the Silver Medal of the City of Graz (1926), the Golden State Medal (1927), the Golden Sign of Merit of the Republic of Austria (1929) and the Austrian State Prize for Architecture (1934). On April 25, 1947, Klinger died at the age of 50 in his hometown Graz.
