Life

origin

Heinrich Leopold von Reichenbach-Goschütz was the eldest son and sixth child of the General Hereditary Postmaster of Silesia, Heinrich Graf von Reichenbach -Goschütz (1731–1790), freelance lord of Goschütz, and Princess Charlotte Auguste von Schwarzburg-Sondershausen (1732–1774) . He belonged to one of the most important and influential Protestant Silesian magnate families. His younger brother was the Prussian lieutenant colonel Christoph Graf von Reichenbach-Goschütz .

Career

Heinrich Leopold von Reichenbach-Goschütz was a conservative politician committed to the Prussian state and its Silesian homeland. After he had followed his father, who died in 1790, as a freelance gentleman in Goschütz and in his hereditary dignity as general hereditary postmaster in Silesia, his activity was not limited to the administration of his extensive property and the performance of his postmaster duties. He was also the Royal Prussian Privy Legation Councilor. As a freelance gentleman, he was a member of the self-government of Silesia and took over the office of President of the general landscape of Silesia.

After an elected all-Prussian national representation had been appointed to Berlin for the spring of 1812, " the Count of Reichenbach auf Goschütz, elected as the national representative of the Lower Silesian manor owners ", should soon play a special role. As early as mid-November 1813, he was appointed by the king as its president for the second session of this assembly beginning in February, as the previous president, Friedrich Graf von Hardenberg, took part in the war of liberation against Napoleon . The presidency of Reichenbach-Goschütz lasted with 41 meetings only until the end of June 1814, as Hardenberg returned quite soon and was reinstated as president from July of that year.

As a Protestant nobleman, he was also a legal knight of the Order of St. John .
