origin

Heinrich Joachim Christoph Graf von Reichenbach-Goschütz came from the ancient noble Silesian noble family Reichenbach , which had gained great importance as a registrar and rich property under Prussian rule from 1742. His parents were Heinrich Graf von Reichenberg-Goschütz (1731–1790), free gentleman on Goschütz , general hereditary postmaster of Silesia and Canon of Magdeburg and Charlotte Auguste Princess von Schwarzburg-Sondershausen (1732–1774), daughter of Prince August I of Schwarzburg- Sondershausen .

Military career

Christoph Graf von Reichenberg-Goschütz was the seventh child of his parents. As the second-born son, he could not inherit the estate of Goschütz because it was subject to the regulations of the Primogenitur and therefore had to be bequeathed to his older brother Heinrich Leopold (1768-1816). Therefore he chose the profession of soldier and became a Prussian cavalry officer. In 1807 he was a first lieutenant in the regiment of Major General Elias Maximilian Henckel von Donnersmarck . After the defeat of Jena and Auerstedt in Silesia, his unit was used to defend the Glatz fortress . Here he distinguished himself in several battles so that the commanding officer of Glatz, Friedrich Wilhelm von Götzen , presented him to King Friedrich Wilhelm III. proposed for the award. The report of October 5, 1807 states:

"... Of the officers I had around me at first, I must, in accordance with my duty, recommend special graces ... 3. Lieutenant Count von Reichenbach, ... Is tirelessly active, very good and his excellent patriotism makes him capable of every sacrifice, a fine sense of honor and an excellent character deserve EM special grace ... "

In a general report on the events during the defense of the fortress Glatz it says:

“... Battle on June 4, 1807. Besides the p. the Count of Reichenbach ... distinguished himself particularly. He led the cavalry several times with success to the attack ..... He also distinguished himself on the 24th when he brought back part of the gun from the lost camp at Glatz .... " .

The king bestowed the order Pour le Merite on Reichenbach and others with the highest cabinet order of December 17, 1807 to Lieutenant General von Grawert .

"... as proof of my grace ... I want to award Lieutenant Count von Reichenbach the medal for merit."

After the end of the war, Christoph von Reichenbach continued to serve in the Prussian army and rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel.
