Elias Maximilian Count Henckel von Donnersmarck (born January 1, 1748 in Neudeck Castle in Silesia, † September 7, 1827 in Breslau ) was a Prussian major general and chief of the cuirassier regiment No. 1 .

Life

origin

He was the son of Karl Erdmann Henckel von Donnersmarck (1695–1760) and his wife Anna Susanne, born von Larisch (1713–1761).

Military career

Donnersmarck joined the Prussian Army Hussar Regiment No. 6 in 1761 . After the Seven Years' War he came as a Junker to the Regiment Garde du Corps , was there on March 4, 1766 cornet and rose to June 10, 1787 to the staff assistant master . He then came to the Gensdarmes Regiment , where he became major on April 13, 1789 , colonel on June 4, 1799 and commander on December 10, 1804. On May 23, 1805 he received from King Friedrich Wilhelm III. the order Pour le Mérite at a military parade . Soon afterwards Donnersmarck got the cuirassier regiment "Bockum-Dolffs" . As early as 1805 he entered the Fourth Coalition War . In the battle of Jena his horse was shot and he was brought to Magdeburg injured . After the fortress surrendered, Donnersmarck was initially taken prisoner, but was released on his word of honor. An application for re-entry into the army was rejected on June 5, 1809. After the war on December 1, 1813, he was retired because of his injuries.

During the Wars of Liberation he was in charge of organizing the Silesian Landwehr cavalry. Donnersmarck died in Breslau in 1827.

Donnersmarck was married to Charlotte Countess von Roedern (1754-1830) from the Hohlstein family on January 10, 1784 . The couple had the following children:
