Heinrich Leporini

Heinrich Leporini , actually Mario Arrigo Giuseppe de Leporini , (born July 9, 1875 in Florence , † June 22, 1964 in Brixlegg ) was an Austrian art historian .

Life

Heinrich Leporini was the son of the officer Paolo Maria de Leporini (* 1841) and Emilie Julie Ludovika Göhl (1845-1893). He first became an Austrian officer (1895–1904), went to the USA in 1904 and returned to Europe in 1908. He studied art history at the Universities of Munich and Vienna with Karl Voll , Max Dvořák and Joseph Strzygowski and received his doctorate in Vienna in 1912. He then became a volunteer at the court library . In the First World War he fought on the Isonzo front and in 1917/18 was the commandant of Lublin. From 1919 he worked under the director Joseph Meder at the Graphic Collection Albertina in Vienna, of which he was provisional director from February to May 1945. In 1946 he retired and lived in Tyrol from 1947.

His field of research was hand drawings and printmaking techniques.
