Karl Voll

Karl Voll (born July 18, 1867 in Würzburg , † December 25, 1917 in Munich ) was a German art historian .

Live and act

Karl Voll first studied Romance languages and English at the University of Munich and from 1889 worked as a teacher at a private school in Weyarn , from 1892 to 1896 at the secondary school in Freising . In addition, he dealt with art history and became an art critic for the Allgemeine Zeitung , from 1896 he worked entirely for the newspaper. In 1896 he received his doctorate in Romance studies in Munich and in 1900 he completed his habilitation in art history at the University of Munich.

He then became an assistant at the graphic collection and then in 1901 curator at the Alte Pinakothek . In 1905 he became honorary professor for art history at the University of Munich and in 1907 full professor for art history at the Technical University of Munich . His students included u. a. Julius Baum , Heinz Braune and Wilhelm Hausenstein .

His specialty was the Dutch painting of the Renaissance and Baroque.
