In 1384 he was elected to the city council and resigned in the course of the civil unrest of 1408 and joined the lawsuit of the old council against the new council. With the return of the old council in 1416 he rejoined it. In Lübeck citizens' wills he is listed several times as a documentary witness and guardian .

Meteler was married three times:

  • first marriage to Elisabeth, daughter of councilor Bruno Warendorp
  • in second marriage with Walmodis, widow of the Lübeck citizen Gerhard Oldesloe
  • third marriage to Adelheid, daughter of Hinrich von Wickede

He lived in the house at Mengstrasse 26, which was confiscated by the New Council in 1408.
