Heinrich Rüegg

Heinrich Rüegg (born December 20, 1801 in Bauma ; † April 21, 1871 in Zurich ) was a Swiss politician and doctor . From 1832 to 1835 he was a member of the government of the Canton of Zurich , from 1848 to 1863 he was a member of the National Council.

The son of a landlord studied at the medical and surgical institute in Zurich (predecessor of the university). He then worked as a doctor in his home community Bauma, from 1860 in Enge . In 1830 Rüegg was elected to the Zurich Cantonal Council. This in turn elected him for the years 1832 to 1835 in the government council. After the Züriputsch he had to resign as a cantonal councilor in 1839 due to his liberal attitude, but was re-elected in 1842 and was a member of this until 1869. In addition, he was a member of the Zurich Health Council from 1832 to 1850. Rüegg ran successfully in the first National Council elections in 1848 and represented the Zurich-East constituency until 1863 .
