Heinrich Rüter

Heinrich Rüter (born April 22, 1877 in Bergedorf near Hamburg, † October 20, 1955 in Hilden near Düsseldorf ) was a German painter.

Life

Rüter completed an apprenticeship as a painter and house painter before joining the Düsseldorf Art Academy . His teachers were Eduard von Gebhardt , who was close to the Düsseldorf Nazarene school , and the fresco painter Peter Janssen . He experienced the First World War as a soldier in the Balkans and Turkey . A number of paintings were created here. Rüter was married and had children. His studio was in Düsseldorf and was taken over by his pupil, the church painter Walter Putfarken , after his death .

Rüter was very successful in his time and lived from orders that were given to him as a result of competitions, such as B. 1915 the mosaic decoration of the baptistery of the Krupp family in Essen and in numerous Protestant churches in the Rhineland and Westphalia . His wall paintings, frescoes and mosaics were representational and met the conservative expectations of his clients. Much of his work was lost due to the destruction caused by the war, but also due to changes in contemporary taste.
