Heinrich Richter (publisher)

Johannes Heinrich Richter (born March 11, 1830 in Meißen ; † July 12, 1890 Boll ) was the only son of the painter Ludwig Richter , a trained musician and publisher.

Heinrich Richter founded the publishing house Gaber & Richter, Xylographische Anstalt und Verlag in 1856 together with his brother-in-law August Gaber . On January 9, 1860, the publishing house was divided and Richter had the J. Heinrich Richter publishing house in Dresden until the end of 1873 . He lived in Dresden-Loschwitz at Malerstraße 5.

  • In 1864 Heinrich Richter published the first Wilhelm Busch volume, the so-called picture antics .
  • From 1874–1875, he and Franz Meyer ran Meyer & Richter, a publishing and art dealer .
  • From 1876 to 1883 he was the sole owner of the art publishing house JH Richter, which he sold on July 1, 1883 to Alphons Dürr.
  • In 1885 he published the memoirs of a German painter written by his father .
