Heinrich Thörner

Heinrich Thörner (born March 6, 1893 in Langsdorf ; † April 22, 1983 in Maintal-Bischofsheim ) was a German electrical engineer and entrepreneur.

Life

Heinrich Thörner was born on March 6, 1893 in Langsdorf in Upper Hesse. His father, Jean Thörner, was the owner of the Langsdorf mechanical engineering workshop. Heinrich Thörner attended a secondary school in Giessen and studied electrical engineering at the TH Darmstadt after graduating from high school . During his student days he became a member of the Darmstadt fraternity of Germania in 1912 . From 1914 he took part in the First World War as a war volunteer. After the end of the war he continued his studies at the TH Darmstadt. Heinrich Thörner passed his diploma examination in October 1920. After graduating, he worked for a few years as an assistant to Karl Wirtz (electrical engineer) at the chair for measurement and high-frequency technology. From 1922 he was assistant to Waldemar Petersen at the chair for electrical engineering II and high voltage engineering for two years . In May 1924 he moved to AEG in Frankfurt / M. and started its industrial activity. In 1933 he followed his former teacher Petersen to Berlin and was transferred to the headquarters of AEG. This was followed by various professional positions such as technical director of the AEG office in Frankfurt / M., Director of the power plants and power transmission department in Berlin and general manager in the department of domestic organization. In 1942 he became a deputy member of the board of directors and, after the Second World War, in 1949 a full board member on the board of AEG.

After the Second World War he was a long-time member of the Presidium of the Central Association of the Electrotechnical Industry ( ZVEI ). In 1952 Thörner was elected first chairman of the Association of Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies (took office January 1, 1953). From 1955 to 1962 he was President of the ZVEI. In 1966 he retired from the AEG service due to age.

Thörner was married twice. The first marriage resulted in a daughter, and the second two daughters and a son.

Heinrich Thörner died on April 22, 1983 at the age of 90. He was buried in the cemetery near the Arnsburg monastery in Lich / Upper Hesse.
