In 1955 he moved to the second-rate GDR league for BSG Aufbau Großräschen , who were bottom of the table in the previous season, but were not relegated due to the transition season. However, the club was not successful even under Theißen and rose from bottom of the table in the II. GDR league . Theißen was dismissed and moved to the fourth-class district league Cottbus for BSG activist Lauchhammer-West, with whom he reached midfield table positions in the two seasons in which he was active as a coach.

From January 1958, Theißen trained the district selection of the Cottbus district and was also the coach of ASG Vorwärts Cottbus . After the team reached fourth place in the table in Season 2 in Theissen's first season, the team was promoted to the GDR league in the 1959 season . At the end of the season, ASG Vorwärts Cottbus reached seventh place in the table. Theißen then became coach of the BSG activist Black Pump , which had just been relegated to the Cottbus district league. From 1963 to April 1964 Theißen worked as a youth leader in Schwarze Pump. In May 1964 he became head coach of BSG Chemie Schwarzheide , which he trained for five years in the Cottbus district league.

In July 1970 Heinrich Theißen returned to ASG Vorwärts Cottbus as technical director and in January 1971 he took over the coaching position again for six months. He then trained the second team of ASG Vorwärts until 1973, and from April 1972 to June 1973 Theißen was also the club's managing director. In July 1973 Theißen went to BSG Aktivist Lauchhammer as a junior manager, in July 1976 he became the club's head coach before retiring the following year.
