Heinrich Driver von der Treib (born February 22, 1899 in Eppelheim , † February 7, 1977 in Rödersheim ) was a German violinist and composer.

biography

Heinrich Driver was born on February 22nd, 1899 in Eppelheim near Heidelberg (Germany). He studied violin, piano and composition in Heidelberg, Stuttgart and Erfurt. At first he worked as a violinist in various orchestras. In 1923 he developed a special 7-string violin - which he called the "driver violin" - and applied for a patent for it (German Reich patent DRP 378582). From this point on he toured as a soloist with his "driver violin". Heinrich later became the musical director of the spa orchestras in Bad Wildungen , Bad Pyrmont and finally Bad Tölz . After this interlude as a conductor, he returned to the violin and initially took on the position of concert master in the Aachen Symphony Orchestra and later in Eisenach, a position he held for many years. Heinrich Driver moved back home around 1950 and lived first in Ilvesheim, later in Rödersheim. There he developed a special violin bow, the "polyphonic bow", for which he received a patent in 1966. Heinrich Driver died on February 7, 1977 in Rödersheim.
