Heinrich Veith became known through his German Mountain Dictionary , published in 1870 (first section A to K) and 1871 (second section L to Z) published by Wilh. Gottl. Korn appeared at Breslau.

The mountain dictionary, often referred to as Veith , represents a detailed compilation of the mining vocabulary and is accompanied by detailed sources and references.

The lawyer, whose original intention was to compile an explanatory overview of the terminology under mining law, realized that this was not possible without a detailed explanation of the mining and mining vocabulary and an overview of the entire mining terminology since the works of Georgius, which had appeared in the 16th century Agricolas and the Schwazer Bergbuch had not been drawn up again.

Due to the size of the vocabulary, the author described his collection as not exhaustive and asked his readers in the foreword to complete and improve it. The publication of an amended version intended by him did not materialize because of his untimely death.

The work, also published as a reprint ( ISBN 3-253-01964-0 ; ISBN 978-3-253-01964-7 ), is still considered a standard work on mining terminology.
