Heinrich Vogel (economist)

Heinrich Vogel (born September 2, 1937 ; † October 22, 2014 ) was head of the Federal Institute for Eastern and International Studies in Cologne from 1976 to 2000 . From 1999 to the end of 2006 he was a member of the board of the Science and Politics Foundation , Berlin.

Vogel studied social sciences and economics in Wilhelmshaven and Munich. He has been a qualified economist since 1966. He also obtained a degree in Soviet studies in 1967 . In 1969, he received his doctorate in economics from the University of Munich . He then worked as a research assistant at the Eastern European Institute in Munich and from 1972 to 1976 as deputy director. From 1971 to 1972 Vogel was visiting lecturer at the University of Oklahoma Munich Branch for two years . In 1972 he became a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Munich. In 1975 he took over a professorship at the Otto Suhr Institute of the Free University of Berlin .

From 1976 to 2000 Vogel was director and professor at the Federal Institute for Eastern and International Studies in Cologne. In 2000 the Federal Institute was merged into the Berlin Science and Politics Foundation.

Vogel was a member of various political science societies. Due to his functions, he advised a. the federal government, German parties and the Eastern Committee of German Business .
