Heinrich Wolfer

Heinrich Wolfer (* 1911 ; † May 2, 1945 in Berlin ) was an Austrian psychiatrist at the time of National Socialism . As a hereditary doctor, Wolfer was significantly involved in forced sterilization .

Life

Wolfer, a member of the Heimwehr from 1929 to 1931 , studied medicine at the University of Innsbruck from 1930 to 1936 after graduating from high school . He later received his doctorate as Dr. med. After joining the NSDAP in 1931, he became a member of the SA in 1932 , from which he switched to the SS in 1940 . In the SS he achieved at least the rank of Untersturmführer. In 1936 he became a volunteer at the Salzburg State Hospital and from 1937 to 1938 he was an assistant doctor in Warstein .

Between 1938 and 1940 Wolfer was employed as an assistant doctor at the Graz-Feldhof Sanatorium and at the same time was the local group leader in Graz-Strass. From 1940 to 1943 he was medical doctor at the Salzburg State Medical Center , where his father Leo Wolfer was director. Heinrich Wolfer was seen there as a fanatical proponent of " euthanasia ". A former colleague said, "that this doctor's will had to execute him judgment given instructions or commands not only 100%, but preferably 500%." In 1944 he was reported to the Waffen-SS , where he belonged to the 11th SS-Freiwilligen-Panzergrenadier-Division "Nordland" -Sanitätsabteilung 11 in Stettin . Wolfer received special training at the SS Medical Academy in Graz in January 1945 and later returned to Stettin from there. Wolfer had been missing since April 1945 and died in Berlin-Mitte in early May 1945 during the Battle of Berlin . Wolfer was buried in an old Jewish cemetery destroyed by the SS.
