Career

Zapf made his international debut at the Four Hills Tournament in 1957/58 . Already at the opening competition on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf he achieved the best individual result of his career with 14th place. Zapf also achieved a very good result with 15th place on the Great Olympic Hill. A little later on the Bergiselschanze he missed the top 20 and was only 22nd in Innsbruck . He finished the tour with the 16th place on the Paul-Ausserleitner-Schanze in Bischofshofen and finished 12th in the overall ranking.

A year later, Zapf was unable to match the success of the previous year at the Four Hills Tournament 1958/59 . So he only contested the two competitions in Germany and broke off the tour after two placements outside the top 20 as 46th overall.

On his third and last Four Hills Tournament in 1959/60 he jumped again in all four competitions. A top 20 placement did not materialize again, but he was consistently in the top 30. In the overall ranking, he reached 22nd place.
