Heinrich von Siebenthal

Heinrich von Siebenthal (born October 31, 1945 in Menziken , Switzerland ) is a Graecist , Hebraist , linguist and didactic specialist in Biblical languages, for which he has been a professor at the state-independent Theological University in Basel since 2012 .

Live and act

Von Siebenthal studied theology , Graecistics (including with Ernst Risch ), Hebrew studies (including with Alan Millard ) and English (including with Ernst Leisi ) in Rüschlikon , Zurich and Liverpool and received his doctorate in 1980 from the University of Liverpool with a linguistic-Hebrew thesis.

From 1976 to 1986 and from 2007 he taught as a lecturer , lecturer or professor for Bible languages ​​and border areas at the state-independent Theological University of Basel (or its predecessor institution). From 1987 until his retirement in 2015 he also taught at the Free Theological University of Giessen (or its predecessor institution), from 2011 as an honorary professor for Biblical Languages ​​and the New Testament .

A special focus of his academic work is the application of general linguistic knowledge to research on ancient languages.

Heinrich von Siebenthal belongs to a Free Evangelical Congregation .

In 1998 von Siebenthal received the Johann Tobias Beck Prize of the Working Group for Evangelical Theology .
