Ernst Risch
Ernst Risch (born October 9, 1911 in Moscow , † September 1, 1988 in Kilchberg ) was a Swiss Indo-Europeanist and classical philologist .
Life
Ernst Risch came to Zurich in Switzerland in 1918, where he studied Indo-European and Classical Philology at the University of Zurich from 1930 to 1935 after graduating from type A (with Greek and Latin) . After receiving his doctorate in 1935 and his habilitation in 1942, he was elected associate professor in 1956 and full professor for Indo-European studies with special emphasis on Latin , Greek and Sanskrit at the University of Zurich, where he remained until his retirement in 1981.
His students include Annemarie Etter , Ivo Hajnal , Alex Leukart and Michael Meier-Brügger .
His main interest was in ancient Greek , and in particular the history and structure of the Greek dialects. However, he published z. B. also works on Latin and Hittite linguistics.
