Heinrich I von Streitberg (also: Heinrich von Strateich ) († after October 12, 1274 ) was a German knight and Roman Catholic bishop of Warmia and later of Samland .

Life

Heinrich came from the Frankish family of the Streitbergers .

In 1248, at the behest of the Archbishop of Riga, he became the first bishop of the newly created Diocese of Warmia. He remained only Elekt , because as a result of a dispute between the Archbishop of Riga and the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order , he was ordained bishop , but could not take possession of his diocese. In 1250 he finally resigned and Anselm von Meißen became bishop.

After leaving the Diocese of Warmia, he served as auxiliary bishop in the dioceses of Bamberg and Würzburg . He consecrated the St. Stephen's Altar in St. Sebaldus Church, Nuremberg . He also consecrated the church and three altars of the Speyer Franciscan monastery in 1256.

On May 7, 1254 he was appointed Bishop of Samland with the bishopric in Königsberg (Prussia) . Heinrich was not the first appointed bishop of this diocese, but his predecessors had not been able to take over the rule. He too rarely stayed in the diocese. But he managed to organize the life of the local church, which in 1258 also led to the secular episcopate through his mediation.
