Marita Ruiter (* in Austria ) is an art collector , curator and gallery owner . She is the organizer of the annual “ Photo Meetings ” held in Luxembourg and of exhibitions by the Franco-German photographer Gisèle Freund . Marita Ruiter lives and works in Luxembourg.

Gisèle Freund Collection

Marita Ruiter studied English and Philosophy at the University of Vienna and painting at the University of Applied Arts Vienna . Her dissertation dealt with the photographic life work of the Jewish German-French photographer Gisèle Freund.

The photo collections put together by Marita Ruiter, "Portraits and Reports by Gisèle Freund", "The First Aerial Photos of Berlin", "Fidel Castro and the Revolutionary Movement in Cuba 1959/60", are repeatedly shown in international exhibitions. The collection of over 200 photographs by Gisèle Freund was last shown in 2013 as part of “ Art Karlsruhe ”.

Focus on artistic photography

Marita Ruiter is the owner of the Clairefontaine Gallery, Espace 1 and Espace 2, in the historic center of Luxembourg City. The Clairefontaine Gallery, Espace 1, was founded by her in 1988 and began the exhibition program with painters of Austrian classical modernism such as Oskar Kokoschka , Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele . In the meantime the focus has shifted to international contemporary painting, sculpture and photography. B. Arnulf Rainer , Dieter Appelt , Patrick Raynaud or Franco Fontana . The second Clairefontaine gallery, Espace 2, on Rue du St.Esprit in Luxembourg, was set up in 1997 with the intention of offering a forum for artistic photography in particular.

Photomeetings Luxembourg

Parallel to the exhibition program, Marita Ruiter developed long-term projects such as the annual photography festival “photomeetings luxembourg”, the photo series of a group of Luxembourgers “Luxembourg Portraits”, and supervised the painting project “the portrait society” by the Luxembourg painter Roland Schauls .

Art fairs

The Clairefontaine Gallery has been represented at internationally renowned art fairs since 1991. Among others the FIAC of Paris, Art Basel , Art Cologne , Paris Photo , AIPAD New York and Artissima Turin. Art fairs have long drawn the attention of international collectors.
