Heinz-Dieter Horch

Heinz-Dieter Horch (* 1947 in Düsseldorf ) is a German sports economist and university professor .

Life

After graduating from secondary school , which he passed in Düsseldorf in 1964, Horch did an apprenticeship as a chemical laboratory assistant . Then he made up his Abitur , which he passed in 1970 in his hometown. He then studied  economics, statistics and sociology at the University of Cologne until 1977 .

From 1977 to 1982 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Trier , where he completed his doctoral thesis in 1981. From 1982 he worked at the University of Hamburg , first as a research assistant, then from 1983 to 1990 as a university assistant. In 1990 and 1991 he was a substitute professor for organizational and economic sociology at the University of Trier, in 1991 his habilitation was accepted at the University of Hamburg (title: “Money, power and commitment in voluntary associations: Basics of an economic sociology of non-profit organizations ").

In 1991 and 1992, as a postdoctoral fellow of the German Research Foundation, he did a research stay at the University of Minnesota in the United States , from 1992 to 1995 Horch held a substitute professorship for sports economics at the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS) and then from 1995 a full professorship Professorship at the Institute for Sport Economics and Sport Management at the DSHS. This made him the first appointed professor for sports economics in Germany. He also headed the institute from then on. Horch was Vice Dean from 2004 and 2005 and a member of the Senate from 1997 to 2011. He was also a member of the faculty council between 1996 and 2005. Until 1999 Horch sat on the scientific advisory board of the German Sports Association , in 1997 and 1998 he was the editor of the European magazine for sport management and from 1994 to 1998 was a member of the editorial board of the also English-language magazine for sport management. In 2011 Horch retired and then worked as a speaker, expert and consultant.

The focus of his research work included sports management, sports management, organizational theory and aspects of labor market and occupational research.

In April 2019 Horch was appointed Honorary President of the Sports Economics Working Group, of which he was Deputy Chairman from the time the association was founded in 1997 to 2011.
