Heinz-Gert Freimuth (born November 2, 1939 in Recklinghausen , † January 22, 2009 in Münster ) was a German choir director and composer.

biography

Heinz-Gert Freimuth studied church music and Catholic theology in Darmstadt , Hamburg , Cologne and Münster. He obtained an additional diploma in singing, composition and conducting. He got his first job in 1964 as organist and choirmaster at the Provost Church of St. Peter in his hometown Recklinghausen, before he was appointed as the first layman and youngest cathedral choir director to the St. Paulus Cathedral in Münster in 1973 . He retired from the Cathedral Church in January 2005.

His work in liturgy and concerts in Münster initially concentrated on the cathedral choir as well as on the establishment and management of a boys 'school since 1974 and a girls' choir since 1992. Later he put together another six vocal ensembles. His work at the cathedral was closely connected with the training of priests and C church musicians in the diocese and membership in commissions. Since 1980, Heinz-Gert Freimuth was a temporary lecturer for singing in the liturgy at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster .

He also directed the chamber choir consortium vocale münster and the municipal music association Coesfeld. Freimuth's compositional work was determined by practice and is based on the respective tasks. As a freelancer, he worked for newspapers and magazines and published articles on the Internet. He also spoke for the radio in which he opened up sacred music. Freimuth lived in Munster-Amelsbüren .
