The Heinz Hilpert Theater is a theater building that opened in Lünen in 1958 . It is a listed building . It was built according to plans by Gerhard Graubner and was named after the director Heinz Hilpert , who often made guest appearances in Lünen with the Deutsches Theater Göttingen and also gave the opening speech. The only full theater in the area of ​​today's Unna district was presented to the public and handed over to the public on September 20, 1958 with a glamorous Aida performance by the Essen theaters.

The construction costs amounted to approx. 4.2 million German marks. The theater holds 765 visitors. In the first few years it was also the seat of the Westphalian Symphony Orchestra. Large stages of the German-speaking theater host representative performances. The orchestra performed with the internationally known soprano Judith Spiesser for the first time at the New Year's Concert 2018/2019 .

Since 1977 the international Jazz-Light-Festival has taken place every November in the theater and in the adjoining Hanse-Saal.

In 2018, for the 60th anniversary of the European Cultural Heritage Year, the theater received the Big Beautiful Building (BBB) award and plaque .
