Heinz Boehm

Heinz Böhm (born February 17, 1907 in Berlin , † May 7, 1988 in Potsdam ) was a German painter, graphic artist and animator.

Life

Heinz Böhm grew up in Berlin and studied from 1924 to 1932 painting at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Berlin-Charlottenburg , first with Emil Orlik , from 1928 as a master student with Karl Hofer . In the years from 1930 he went on several study trips to Italy and Yugoslavia. Between 1934 and 1942 he organized a. a. with the painters Werner Heldt , Ludwig Kasper , Herbert Tucholski and the sculptor Renée Sintenis a series of sales exhibitions in various factories. Heinz Böhm married in 1942 and moved with his wife Christel to Königs-Wusterhausen due to the air raids on Berlin. From 1954 to 1962 Heinz Böhm was chief draftsman at the DEFA animation studio in Potsdam-Babelsberg. In 1955 he moved to Potsdam-Nedlitz with his wife and two children and lived there from 1962 as a freelance painter and graphic artist.

Böhm's main work, which emphasizes color, includes still lifes, landscapes, figurative compositions, portraits and nudes in various techniques such as oil, tempera, gouache and watercolor as well as architecture-related works. He drew the inspiration for his artistic work largely from the Brandenburg landscape and from his immediate family environment. In addition, he created a series of pictures and watercolors on his travels to the Bohemian Central Mountains, the Baltic Sea, the Giant Mountains and Thuringia in the 1970s. His mural "August Bebel in the Reichstag 1905" hangs in the office of the Landtag member and Vice President of the Brandenburg Landtag Dieter Dombrowski .
