Heinz Bach

Heinz Bach (born May 9, 1923 in Berlin ; † June 6, 2013 in Mainz ) is a German educator.

Career

Bach passed his Abitur in Berlin in 1941. He was then called up for military service. After the war he studied education, special education, psychology, philosophy and sociology and a doctorate in 1960 at the Institute of Special Education Zurich at Paul Moor Dr. phil. From 1961 he was an academic advisor at the University of Mainz , where he set up the Institute for Special Education. In 1966 he was appointed to the first chair for mentally handicapped pedagogy in Germany in Mainz , of which he is considered to be the co-founder. After his retirement in 1991, he continued to work as an honorary professor at the Johannes Gutenberg University.

Bach was a member of the Special Education Committee of the German Education Council, which in 1974 drew up the recommendations “For the educational support of children and young people with disabilities and at risk of disability”. From 1974 to 2000 he was a member of the “Child Advocate” commission and at times its chairman. Bach died in Mainz in 2013 at the age of 90.
