Heinz Manfred Becher (born September 4, 1933 in Worms ) is a former German rower .

In the early 1950s, Becher joined the rowing club in Worms in order to overcome the consequences of his spinal paralysis, which he also succeeded in doing with the help of rowing. Becher rowed eight , four without a helmsman and finally formed a double scull with Darmstadt's Wolfgang Koch at the end of the 1950s . When Koch was unavailable after a motorcycle accident, Becher rowed in a single row in 1959 .

In 1960, Becher formed a double scull with Just Jahn from ARC Würzburg . This double scull took third place at the German championships behind Manfred Rulffs and Karl-Heinrich von Groddeck from Ratzeburg and Wolfgang Montag and Herbert Hoff from Constance. In the eliminations for the all-German team , the Ratzeburgers did not start in double sculls as members of the Germany eight . Becher and Just were able to prevail against both Montag and Hoff and the boats from the GDR and were nominated for the all-German team. The day before the first round at the OlympicsJust Jahn fell out because of a callous abscess on the hand. Since no Skull -Ruderer was mitgereist as a substitute, the Dusseldorf drew belt -Ruderer Günter Schroers to mugs in the double sculls. The two finished fifth in the first run and then retired as third place in the third repechage run.

Heinz Manfred Becher remained loyal to his club even after his career. He is an honorary member of the Worms Rowing Club Blau-Weiß from 1883 , the only rowing club in Worms that emerged from the two Worms rowing clubs after a merger in 2006.
