Heinz Friese

Heinz Friese (born January 31, 1931 in Mukden ; † May 3, 1975 in Austria ) was a German sinologist .

Life

After graduating from high school in Güstrow in 1950, he studied Sinology at the Humboldt University in Berlin . After the father's return from captivity in 1953, the family moved to Hanover ; he then continued his sinology studies at the University of Hamburg and received his doctorate here in 1957 (minor subjects Japanese and Slavic studies ). He then went to Tokyo University on a two-year scholarship . In 1959 he returned to Hamburg back to meet up with a grant from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft to the habilitation prepare. He was teaching at the Chinese Language and Culture Seminar. After completing his habilitation in 1963, he did research in Taiwan for a year from the spring of 1963 . After his return, Friese received a lectureship in Sinology at the University of Hamburg, and in 1967 he accepted a call to the newly founded sinology chair at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg , where he remained until his death.
