Heinz Goehring

Heinz Göhring (born July 31, 1935 in Sangerhausen ; † March 9, 2000 ) was a German sociologist and interpreter .

Life and education

Heinz Göhring completed his studies in Heidelberg in 1959 as a qualified interpreter for English and Spanish and worked in this profession for 35 years. After further studies in Heidelberg with the subjects of ethnology , sociology , economics and political science , he received his doctorate in 1966 with a thesis on the Baluba in today's Zaire .

Between 1968 and 1970 he lived in southern Spain . He contracted cancer in 1995, took early retirement in 1997, and died in 2000.

Act

In 1971 he was appointed to the Institute for General Linguistics and Cultural Studies in Germersheim . In his teaching he aimed to change the teaching of foreign languages . Translators and interpreters should know more about the country and its people. Every student should be given the opportunity to stay abroad, and on the other hand, instead of traditional regional studies, the curriculum should include an intercultural "people study". He co-founded the discipline of intercultural communication in Germany and was the first to establish this subject at a German university. He dealt with intercultural comparisons of behavioral patterns and communication games.
