Heinz Horner (born August 27, 1938 in Böhmisch-Leipa ) is a German physicist and emeritus professor for theoretical physics at the University of Heidelberg .

Life

Heinz Horner received his doctorate in 1966 with Wilhelm Brenig at the Technical University of Munich on the subject of "Lattice Dynamics of Quantum Crystals". He then did research as a postdoctoral fellow at Forschungszentrum Jülich in Herbert Wagner's group and at the University of Minnesota . In 1973 he completed his habilitation at RWTH Aachen . Since 1975 he was a professor in Heidelberg. In 2004 he retired there.

The focus of his scientific work is on the physics of disordered systems (especially the spin glasses ) and the resulting physical models of brain functions (so-called "neural networks" ).

Heinz Horner was co-editor of the Zeitschrift für Physik for many years .
