Heinz John (table tennis player)
Heinz John (born November 18, 1935 ) is a former German table tennis player from the GDR. In the early 1960s he was one of the best GDR players and took part in a world championship.
Career
From 1960 to 1964, John was GDR team champion five times in a row with the SC Lokomotive Leipzig and the SC Leipzig . In 1961 he was involved in reaching the European Cup final.
At the GDR championships, he reached the semi-finals several times:
- 1961 in mixed with Brigitte Lantzsch
- 1962 in doubles with Wolfgang Viebig
- 1963 in doubles with Wolfgang Viebig and in mixed with Rosita Löhlein
- 1964 in doubles with Bernd Pornack
In 1963 John was nominated for the world championship . Here he was eliminated in the first round in both singles (against Ma Chin-pao (China)) and doubles (against Ludvík Vyhnanovský / Jaroslav Kunz (CSSR)). He did not take part in the mixed competition. With the GDR men's team, he came in ninth.
In the mid-1970s, John was Secretary General of the GDR table tennis association DTTV .
