Bernd Pornack

Bernd Pornack (born April 17, 1944 ) is a former table tennis player of the GDR. He was GDR champion in doubles and multiple team champions.

National successes

Born in Leipzig, Pornack was one of the best players in the GDR in the 1960s. With SC Leipzig and the successor club BSG Lokomotive Leipzig-Mitte, he won the GDR team championship four times in a row from 1964 to 1967. With SC Leipzig he reached the European Cup final in the 1964/65 season .

At the GDR championships he was most successful in doubles. In 1969 he won the title with Wolfgang Viebig . He lost a double final four times: in 1965 with Peter Fähnrich , 1966 with Siegfried Lemke , 1970 and 1971 with Wolfgang Viebig. In 1969 he played for the Lok Leipzig Mitte club, in 1971 he moved to BSG Automation Cottbus, and since 2004 he has been a member of ESV Forst.

International

Pornack was appointed to the GDR national team 33 times. In 1964 he entered the European Championships , where he came in singles after defeating the Russians Gegam Vardanian in the round of 16. In 1965 and 1967 he was nominated for world championships.

In 1976 the executive committee of the GDR table tennis association recognized DTTV Pornack's achievements in the development and promotion of table tennis and awarded it the DTTV badge of honor.
