Jaroslav Kunz

Jaroslav Kunz (born August 28, 1946 in Prague ) is a former Czechoslovak table tennis player and today's German table tennis trainer. He is vice European champion in doubles.

International success

Jaroslav Kunz played almost 200 international matches for the CSSR. Between 1963 and 1978 he took part in six world championships and six European championships . At the 1971 World Cup , he reached the quarter-finals in singles (where he lost to Stellan Bengtsson ), in 1975 he was fourth with the team. His greatest success was silver in doubles (with Milan Orlowski ) at the European Championship in 1976 . He also made it to the quarterfinals four times in doubles and twice in mixed at EMs.

He won the European Cup twice with the Sparta Prague club and the trade fair cup once . In total, he won ten titles at CSSR championships in singles, doubles and team championships.

In 1987 he ended his active international career.

Working in Germany

In 1978 Jaroslav Kunz left the ČSSR and came to Germany. Here he worked for 33 years until August 2011 as an association trainer for the table tennis association Schleswig-Holstein , then from October 1, 2012 as a fee trainer for the table tennis association Lower Saxony . In 1986 he acquired German citizenship.

In 2006 he took part in the Senior World Championship in Bremen. Here he was second in the age group 60+ in doubles (with the Swiss Herbert Neubauer ) and third in the singles. At the Senior World Cup in Rio de Janeiro in 2008, he won the singles title. With the Dane Jens-Erik Linde, he became senior world champion in doubles over 65 in Auckland, New Zealand in 2014.

Private

Jaroslav Kunz completed an apprenticeship at the railroad and later worked as an engineer for a construction company. He is married to Jitka, a former gymnast. He has a son named Ondrej (born July 24, 1973), who took part in the European Youth Championship in 1988, played at times with RC Protesia Hamburg in the 2nd Bundesliga, has played for TSV Süderbrarup since 1998, won the Schleswig-Holstein state championships several times and the TSB Flensburg women's team (2nd BL) trained.
