Heinz Kägebein

Heinz Kägebein (born March 11, 1924 in Spornitz ; † August 22, 2018 in Neustadt-Glewe ) was a German vocational school teacher , Mecklenburg homeland researcher and poet and writer of the Low German language .

Life

Heinz Kägebein completed elementary school and from 1938 an apprenticeship as an aircraft engine fitter in Hamburg. He took part in the Second World War as a soldier, was deployed in North Africa and became a British prisoner of war, from which he was released in 1947. After returning to his home in Mecklenburg, he qualified as an engineer and educator. He worked as a vocational school teacher in Dömitz until 1957 and then in Ludwigslust until 1989 .

In his spare time Kägebein, who had lived in Neustadt-Glewe since 1965, worked as a local researcher. He was involved in the Kulturbund and was a board member of the Neustadt-Glewe cultural and homeland association until 2018.

Works

Heinz Kägebein organized countless events and readings (including his own). Many of his own Low German poems and short stories came from his pen, which appeared in the daily press, later in anthologies and periodicals such as the Heimathefte for Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania , the Voss-un-Haas calendar , the Johannes Gillhoff yearbooks or the Johrestieden series .

Honors

Kägebein was repeatedly honored for his services to Low German literature. He was an honorary citizen of Neustadt-Glewe.
