Heinz Kersting (soccer player)

Heinz Kersting (born July 9, 1923 , † March 22, 2007 in Bochum-Wattenscheid ) was a German football goalkeeper. He played in the Oberliga West for four years for FC Schalke 04 .

Career

Kersting came from the youth of the Wattenscheider Union Günnigfeld, where he guarded the gate even after returning from captivity. In 1950 he was signed by FC Schalke 04. The team around Hermann Eppenhoff , Berni Klodt and Hans Kleina also became West German champions thanks to Kersting's achievements . By 1954, Kersting had completed 72 league games for the "miners". The later goalkeeper of the 1958 championship team, Manfred Orzessek , replaced him.

After his active time, Kersting became a trainer, including at SG Wattenscheid 09 and other clubs in the Ruhr area. In his main job, as in his time with Schalke, he remained a tax officer.

Kersting died of cancer on March 22, 2007.
