Manfred Orzessek (born June 30, 1933 ; † April 12, 2012 in Mönchengladbach ) was a German football goalkeeper and coach . He played for Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga , among others . In 1958 he was German champion with FC Schalke 04 .

Career

FC Schalke 04, 1953 to 1961

From Eintracht Gelsenkirchen , Manfred Orzessek came to Schalke 04 in July 1953. Here he soon replaced goalkeeper Heinz Kersting . The stocky, slightly stocky goalkeeper made his debut in the Oberliga West on September 6, 1953 in a 3-2 away win at Alemannia Aachen. His teammates in Gelsenkirchen soon called him the “lion” because he had “unlikely jumping power” and was “incredibly quick in his movements”, according to his teammate Willi Koslowski . In 1961, Orzessek moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Oberliga West . In the Oberliga West he played 11 games for Borussia in his first year. In the 1962/63 season he displaced the previous goalkeeper Friedel Dresbach and came to 24 missions that season. In total, he came to 35 appearances in the Oberliga West for Borussia. With the team from Niederrhein he rose to the Bundesliga in 1965 after winning the regional league title in the west. Coach Hennes Weisweiler used his regular goalkeeper in 32 games in 1964/65 and also played all six games in the promotion round with him. In total, Orzessek played 70 regional league games from 1963 to 1965 for Mönchengladbach. Until 1969 he was part of Borussia's first division squad; However, he made his 29 Bundesliga games except for one all in the first season .
