Heinz Malz

Heinz Malz (* 1931 in Frankfurt am Main (Bockenheim); † April 9, 2011 ) was a German micropalaeontologist .

Life

Malz studied in Frankfurt am Main and received his doctorate in 1957 from Rudolf Richter on ostracods of Malm , collecting extensively in northern Germany, France and England. Then he went to the Senckenberg Museum , where he dealt with Mesozoic ostracods. In 1963 he became curator and in 1969 as the successor to Erich Triebel (1893–1971), who was also an ostracod specialist, head of the micropaleontology section. In 1989 he organized the first conference of European ostracode researchers. In 1994 he retired ( Thomas Jellinek was his successor ) and moved to Bramsche , where he continued to be scientifically active.

In addition to ostracods (not only from the Jura, but also, for example, from the Pleistocene of Japan and Taiwan and recent ostracods), he also dealt with otoliths , decapods, trace fossils and foraminifera.

In 1962 he contributed to the handbook of micropaleontological index fossils . For several years he was editor of Senckenbergiana lethaea .
