Heinz Piest

Heinz Wilhelm Kurt Karl Piest (born October 15, 1906 in Myslowitz , Kattowitz district , Upper Silesia ; † October 31, 1958 ) was a German engineer and university professor .

Life

Piest completed his studies in Breslau ( Lower Silesia ) in 1929 as a graduate engineer. He then worked until 1945 as manager of the Craft Institute at the Technical University of Wroclaw . During these years he was awarded a Dr.-Ing. PhD . His dissertation of October 5, 1939 was entitled "On the influence of laundry in the hot iron" (Verlag Noske, Borna-Leipzig 1940).

Piest completed his habilitation in wood technology at the TH Breslau in 1942. His habilitation thesis of July 16, 1942 was on the subject of "Fundamentals and procedures for the artificial drying of wood with special consideration of small and medium-sized businesses" (o. O. 1942).

After the Second World War he was managing director of the Chamber of Crafts Lüneburg-Stade from 1945 to 1950 . In 1949 he completed his habilitation - also in wood technology - at the Technical University of Hanover . In 1950 he became a senior councilor . In 1951 he received a teaching position at the TH Hannover and in 1956 he became an adjunct professor .

Honors

The Heinz Piest Institute at today's Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hanover was named after him.
