Career as a soccer player

After the Second World War, Schoppe first played football in Zwenkau , West Saxony , and in the early 1950s for the company sports association (BSG) activist Böhlen . At the beginning of the 1952/53 season he played with the BSG activist in the newly founded fourth class district class in Leipzig.

In the winter of 1952, seven regular players were lured away by league rivals SV Vorwärts Leipzig at the GDR upper division club BSG Chemie Leipzig . As a replacement, six new players from various company sports associations came to BSG Chemie, including 27-year-old Heinz Schoppe. Coach Walter Rose joined Schoppe in the newly formed attack line, where he took over the position of the half-right striker. By the end of the season he played all 18 point games in which he scored four goals. In 1953/54 Schoppe was initially used on half right by the new coach Alfred Kunze . In the second half of the season, Kunze rebuilt the team in several positions and let Schoppe storm the half left in eight games. Schoppe was not impressed by the interplay and became the chemists' top scorer with 14 championship goals.

The Lokomotive sports club was founded in Leipzig in September 1954 . The soccer section of the SC was formed from players from BSG Chemie, including Heinz Schoppe, who had played 45 league games so far. Coach Kunze was also taken over, who let Schoppe play again on the usual half-right post. Due to injury, he had to suspend five point games in the second half of the series and only scored three league goals. Also in September 1954, Schoppe was appointed to the GDR's national B team. As a right winger, he played the B international match Poland - GDR (1: 2) on September 26, 1954.

After the 1954/55 season, the GDR football schedule was changed to the calendar year and a simple transition round was played to adjust it in the fall of 1955. With Fritz Wittenbecher , the SC Lok got a new trainer who let Schoppe continue to storm on the right wing. Schoppe played all 13 games of the transition round and was again the best scorer of his team with six goals. After only nine league games in 1956, Schoppe was used again in all league games in the 1957 season, but mainly commuted between different storm positions in the second half of the season. On December 22, 1957, Schoppe was in the final of the GDR soccer cup with SC Lok . In the 2-1 win after extra time over SC Empor Rostock, he scored the equalizer as a center forward. Schoppe played his last league season as a 32-year-old in 1958. Alfred Kunze had returned as a coach and struck Schoppe from the regular team. Between the 2nd and the 14th Bundesliga matchday he was only used eight times, including twice as a substitute. After 76 league games and 18 championship goals for SC Lok, including the transition round in 1955, Schoppe ended his career as a league player at the end of the season.

From 1959 to 1962 Schoppe played for the Leipzig BSG Motor Gohlis Nord in the third class II. DDR league .
