Heinz von Moisy
Heinz von Moisy (born May 11, 1935 as Heinrich Gandenberger von Moisy ; † May 3, 2017 in Tübingen ) was a German jazz musician ( drums , composition).
Live and act
Moisy received his first drum lessons in 1951. His first job as a professional followed four years later. In the late 1950s he was part of Michael Naura's quintet , with whom he also made records.
In 1961 he studied with Alan Dawson at the Berklee School of Music in Boston; he stayed in the United States until 1964, playing as the only white man in an African American band. As a consequence, he joined a “black” union. Back in Germany he worked as a musician in Berlin. He was a session musician with Drafi Deutscher and Olivia Molina , made theater music and wrote the “Drumset” chapter for the Big Book of Drumming Practice . As a percussionist, he was also involved in recordings with the Ars Nova Ensemble Nürnberg and with Lucky Thompson .
In 1979 he moved to Tübingen, where he taught at the music school and set up a percussion studio. In addition, he directed the International Tübingen Percussion Days for 16 years . He was a member of the International Jazz Trio around Karol Szymanowski . In the mid-1980s he was a representative of Europe on the board of the Percussive Arts Society .
He released the album Irisation (1977) under his own name . He also composed.
